Evaluated Tape

Recycled tape can save your company up to 50% on tape stock...with our personal guarantee to look and perform like new.

As producers and editors ourselves, we agree that new tape is preferrable for that critical single camera shoot. But for many jobs like B Roll, dubs, demos, practice tapes, archive copies, resume reels, screen tests, titles and student projects, why not save money and be socially responsible at the same time?

We are the industry's evaluated tape experts.
Our in-house evaluation facilities are located in Glendale CA. We have been in the tape recycling business for over 11 years. In fact, recycled tape was EVS's only product when we first entered the market.

What is Recycled (Evaluated) Tape?
One-pass tape that is inspected, thoroughly degaussed and refurbished.

Where do we get our tape stock?

We begin by acquiring reliable one-pass professional tape stock from the same credible sources we have been using for the last 15 years. The tape arrives at our facility and is manually inspected for defects.

The evaluation process - easy as 1, 2, 3.

  1. Evaluate for magnetic integrity: Once it passes the manual inspection it is then put through a magnetic evaluation using state of the art RTI evaluators. The RTI inspects the tape end-to-end looking for breaks or damage in the oxide coating, at the same time it polishes the recording surface and eliminates debris, improving head-to-tape contact. If the tape passes this inspection as an 'A' grade tape it is then degaussed and cosmetically refurbished.
  1. Erase all audio and video signal: We employ the Garner Eliminator 4000 degaussers to ensure complete erasure of all audio and video signal. The Eliminator 4000 is built to handle today's magnetic recording formats that allow for more data storage, better video resolution, less video noise and higher frequency recording. The 4000 features patented technology that will guarantee complete erasure of all formats including: U-Matic, S-VHS, MII, D1, D2, D3, D5, 4MM, 8MM, DLT, HI8, DAT, DIGITAL BETACAM SP, DVCAM, DVCPRO, DIGITAL-S, HDTV. This unique machine also eliminates excessive heating of metal cassette parts and reels that can damage tape.
  1. Cosmetic refurbishing of the shell and case: Finally the tape is sent for cosmetic refurbishing where the labels are removed with solvents that do not damage or discolor the shell. The shell is hand polished and the case is cleaned (or discarded if damaged) and a new case replaces it.
These quality tapes are then packed into brand new white corrugated cardboard boxes (same exact dimensions as the boxes new tape is packaged in), labeled and inventoried and ready to ship to our clients.

Who uses evaluated tape stock?
You would be surprised. Our evaluated clients include larger studios, editing facilities and dub houses. These satisfied customers have been purchasing our evaluated (recycled) stock for over a decade with the peace of mind of knowing that the evaluated Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, Beta SX, DVCAM, 3/4" and HDCAM tape stock will produce results that meet their high standards.

Why not save up to 50% of the cost of new tapes and help the planet use its resources more wisely. It saves you money and saves the planet in the process. And as with all your EVS purchases, your satisfaction is guaranteed or your money back.
